Professional Biography                 

 

Dr. Coleman (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and NYS Certified School Psychologist who specializes in the therapeutic treatment of children through young adults. Her two+ decades of experience has included work within Pre-K to 12 and higher education, agency, private clinical, and both inpatient and outpatient hospital settings. 

 

Issues addressed include: anxiety, depression, pediatric medical trauma, adjustment problems/life transitions (e.g. divorce, school concerns, college transition) and sexual/gender identity concerns. Psychotherapeutic approaches include principles of client-centered, solution-focused, interpersonal, psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral theories. Dr. Coleman believes that an empathic approach and strong collaboration with caregivers is essential to enhance a child/adolescent's potential and promote their social/emotional health along with the family’s functioning. She is an LGBTQ+ affirmative, inclusive therapist.

 

In addition to private practice, Dr. Coleman serves as Professor and Director of Clinical Training for D'Youville University's Psy.D. Program in Clinical Psychology. She previously provided clinical coordination for the Counseling, School and Educational Psychology Department of the University at Buffalo; conducted neurodevelopmental evaluations through the Neonatology Division of UBMD Pediatrics, administered comprehensive evaluations for students referred through the Committees on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) & Special Education (CSE) and pre-adoption evaluations for children in foster care referred through the Erie County Department of Social Services (ECDSS). Further, Dr. Coleman teaches/taught graduate-level courses in child & adolescent assessment/treatment, cognitive & integrative assessment, and ethics; supervises/supervised graduate students in their clinical and school psychology training, and serves/served in leadership roles for regional psychology organizations. 

 

Dr. Coleman obtained her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Medaille College in 2017, having completed a pre-doctoral internship at both the Children’s Psychiatry Clinic and the Hematology-Oncology Department of John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital. She wrote a dissertation titled "Caregiver Perceptions of Psychosocial Service Delivery During Pediatric Oncology Treatment." She conferred her Master of Arts in School Psychology from the University at Buffalo in 2002 and her B.A. at Niagara University in 1999, with a Psychology major and Social Work minor.
